Willempje Bouwmeester

Because of the employment of my husband in some countries over the world, I was confronted with  different cultures, ways of life and poverty in the Third World.

Coming back to the Netherlands this experience made me decide to start voluntary work to help people in developing countries. At first I worked in a Fair Trade Shop for ten years, until I came upon Penduka.
This project, to help women getting a job and training, so they can improve  their life and the situation of their families, appealed to me. After doing voluntary work for a couple of years,  and visiting Penduka Namibia, I became president of the Foundation in the Netherlands.

In January 2016 I stepped back after six years, but will continue my work  as a boardmember.
